Update #8

Date work completed:  6/7-6/11/10

Monday the framers started & finished both set of stairs. While I was cooking breakfast, they cut out the window to start the stairs. They hung some visqueen to keep the sawdust out of the sitting room. By noon, they were finished with the interior stairs. Mr. Wes, the framing subcontractor, told Luke since he was the oldest that he got to be the 1st to try out the stairs. (The rest of us had to wait until Daddy got home that night!) After they finished for the day, they hung up a piece of plywood over the opening so that the air conditioner wouldn't be escaping to the upstairs.

The framers finished up this week hanging the rest of the siding and finishing up the underside of the interior stairs.  The shingles were put on this week except for the caps.  Air conditioner work was done as well as lots of plumbing including installing the shop shower and the kids/hall bath tub.

Bedroom & Playroom floor selection

Shaw Industries Radiant Luster, Gobi Color

We decided to go with a wood laminate for the bedroom and playroom upstairs, because there will be lots of unsupervised play and overall it will be more durable than wood. We picked a color that is similar to the color of our current wood floor downstairs.

Update #7

On Memorial Day when we got home from Monroe, my dad came over with the backhoe to help smooth out some of the dirt. Unfortunately the ground was too wet from all the rain that we got over the weekend, so he could only work from the road. So they still had to move some of the dirt by hand with shovels.

Tuesday, the framers put up the soffet and facia on the front and driveway sides of the addition, added some more siding, and framed up around the patio side windows. Craig bought some sod to put around the catch basins.

Wednesday, the framers finished putting the soffet and facia on the backside and patio side, added more siding, hung the OSB under the carport. They also started removing stuff around the window to work on the interior stairs.
Photobucket
Thursday, the framers finished up the siding and started building the landing area for the exterior stairs. Unfortunately, the rain came and they had to leave early. Also with all of the rain on Friday, they were unable to come out as well.
Photobucket
The plumber was able to come out this week and finish up roughing in the plumbing upstairs and installing the new water heater.
Photobucket
Saturday some of the framing crew came out and worked some more on the exterior stairs.

This coming week the framers should finish up. They had planned to start on the interior stairs on Friday, but the rain changed their plans. It will be exciting once both sets of stairs go up. Then I can actually go upstairs and look around. Craig let Luke & Cameron go up the ladder on Saturday to look around.

Update #6

Dates Work Completed: 5/23-5/29/10 Sunday the plumber came out to finish up some stuff before an inspection on Monday.
Photobucket
Monday, the framers finished putting up the exterior walls, worked on the ceiling beams, and formed up the interior walls. You can see a couple of places that got messed up inside the current living space from all the banging. Craig & PawPaw finished the catch basins. Miriam & Levi were their helpers. All they have left to do is to back fill some of it with dirt.
Photobucket
Tuesday, the framers put on the roof and PawPaw had some dirt delivered to fill in the rest of the ditch.
Photobucket
Wednesday, the framers put up the remaining Tyvek and marked out the lines for the hardy plank siding. They also cut out the frame work for the stairs.
Photobucket
Thursday, the framers cut out the door to the shop, added a little more of the siding, and installed windows. That afternoon we got a heavy rain shower and the smaller window in the bathroom was not installed, because the wrong size was delivered. Craig put up a bunch of trash cans to catch the rain.
Photobucket
Friday the rest of the windows were installed and some siding was put up.  Also, while Luke & Cameron were at music camp and Laura & Eric were watching the other kids, Craig & I went to pick out bathroom countertops, tile flooring for the bathrooms, cabinet hardware and lighting and fans.

Nothing was done on Saturday with it being a holiday weekend.
