Update #22

Dates Work Completed:  9/13-9/17/2010

Alot of work was done this week. We were trying to get it mostly completed before the weekend because Craig's brothers were coming in for the LSU game. The laminate floors were completed, the hand rail, bathroom mirrors, towel rods, doorknobs, and blinds were installed. The driveway extension was completed on Thursday. The addition is mostly completed now except for some touch up painting, the garage door, and some dirt work.

Update #21

Dates Work Completed:  9/7-9/11/10

The trim carpenters installed the stair treads and added trim in the current keeping area downstairs where stuff was removed when the stairwell was added. The laminate floors were mostly installed on Friday and Saturday. There's just a little more to be added in the playroom and where it meets the stairs.

Update #20

Dates Work Completed: 8/29-9/3/10

Our neighbor helped us dig up a crepe myrtle that is going to be in the way when we extend the driveway to the new garage. Electricity and the a/c were turned on so we were able to remove the plywood from the interior stair entrance. The trim work was completed around the stairs.

Update #17

Dates Work Completed: 8/9 - 8/13/10

The painters completed their first coat inside. They'll put on the 2nd coat at the very end of the project. The bottom right picture was just too funny. It was a ladies name and phone number written on the wall. We don't know if it was a girlfriend or a client, but Craig told me to take a picture of it! That bright blue wall is the only color that Craig picked out. It's for the shop bathroom...his La Tech bathroom!

Sinks, custom shower, and tile floors are being installed this coming week. The contractor is estimating that there's 3 weeks left on the project.

Update #16

Dates Work Completed: 8/2-8/6/10

The trim carpenter installed the base boards, window trim, and closet shelves. He made the shutters that will be going up on the new windows on the brick side. He also nailed down the flooring that was ripped up to fix the A/C problem. The section of our patio cover that was missing was also reinstalled. When we ordered cabinets for the upstairs, we also had a cabinet made for our existing bathroom. That was also hung this week.

Update #15

Dates Work Completed: 7/26-7/30/10
A new A/C vent was added to the existing guest room to help with cooling it off. The trim carpenter came and started his work: hanging doors, baseboards, window trim, attic stairs, and closet shelves.

Update #14

Dates Work Completed: 7/19-7/24/10

The cabinets were delivered and installed except for a new cabinet in the existing downstairs guest bathroom. The existing shutters and front door were repainted with a new color because we didn’t have the name of the existing paint color to paint the new shutters that will be going up.  The work area was cleaned up in case TS Bonnie hit us (leftover bricks moved, scraps thrown away, porta potty cleaned out, and full dumpster was taken away and a new one was received).  The interior doors, baseboards, window casings, attic stairs, and stair treads were delivered.  Some of the floor was removed in the new guest bathroom and guest bedroom to try to determine a problem with the A/C in the existing guest bedroom.  It was determined that there was probably a crimp in the existing line.  They’re going to be adding a new vent/line from the new A/C unit to try to help cool off that room some more.

Shutters & Awning

We didn't have the name of the original paint color on our shutters so we had to pick out a new color. We ended up picking Sherwin Williams French Roast (SW 6069, Strip 10). Therefore, we decided to pick out a new awning for the front of the house and will be moving our old awning to the new upstairs back door. We chose Morris Penny because it seemed to compliment the bricks and shutters nicely.

Our existing awning was Walnut Brown Tweed.

Update #8

Date work completed:  6/7-6/11/10

Monday the framers started & finished both set of stairs. While I was cooking breakfast, they cut out the window to start the stairs. They hung some visqueen to keep the sawdust out of the sitting room. By noon, they were finished with the interior stairs. Mr. Wes, the framing subcontractor, told Luke since he was the oldest that he got to be the 1st to try out the stairs. (The rest of us had to wait until Daddy got home that night!) After they finished for the day, they hung up a piece of plywood over the opening so that the air conditioner wouldn't be escaping to the upstairs.
Photobucket

The framers finished up this week hanging the rest of the siding and finishing up the underside of the interior stairs.  The shingles were put on this week except for the caps.  Air conditioner work was done as well as lots of plumbing including installing the shop shower and the kids/hall bath tub.

Bedroom & Playroom floor selection

Shaw Industries Radiant Luster, Gobi Color

We decided to go with a wood laminate for the bedroom and playroom upstairs, because there will be lots of unsupervised play and overall it will be more durable than wood. We picked a color that is similar to the color of our current wood floor downstairs.

Update #7

On Memorial Day when we got home from Monroe, my dad came over with the backhoe to help smooth out some of the dirt. Unfortunately the ground was too wet from all the rain that we got over the weekend, so he could only work from the road. So they still had to move some of the dirt by hand with shovels.
Photobucket
Tuesday, the framers put up the soffet and facia on the front and driveway sides of the addition, added some more siding, and framed up around the patio side windows. Craig bought some sod to put around the catch basins.
Photobucket
Wednesday, the framers finished putting the soffet and facia on the backside and patio side, added more siding, hung the OSB under the carport. They also started removing stuff around the window to work on the interior stairs.
Photobucket
Thursday, the framers finished up the siding and started building the landing area for the exterior stairs. Unfortunately, the rain came and they had to leave early. Also with all of the rain on Friday, they were unable to come out as well.
Photobucket
The plumber was able to come out this week and finish up roughing in the plumbing upstairs and installing the new water heater.
Photobucket
Saturday some of the framing crew came out and worked some more on the exterior stairs.
Photobucket

This coming week the framers should finish up. They had planned to start on the interior stairs on Friday, but the rain changed their plans. It will be exciting once both sets of stairs go up. Then I can actually go upstairs and look around. Craig let Luke & Cameron go up the ladder on Saturday to look around.
